I wanted to share with you some of the successes of this year’s summer reading program, Reading Colors Your World! A BIG thank you to Jeanette, Jenni L., and Chelsey for all their hard work on the program and it’s delivery. While this year was different in style from our traditional program due to the lingering (and possible continuing) effects of the pandemic, it was a GREAT summer with WONDERFUL children and their adults. Each child chose a FREE book thank you to generous funding from the Spring Valley Area Community Foundation (SVACF.) We handed out weekly grab-and-go bags (approximately 110 bags a week for each of 6 weeks!) with crafts and activities while still offering many on-site things to do. Our I-spy window and picture search were huge hits as well as the guessing jar and coloring wall. Checking out new books each week and also taking part in a pop up game outside kept lots of kids happy and coming back. Chesley did a fantastic job with our FB Live story times! She certainly brought about many giggles with her story reading skills.
And our Story strolls? AMAZING success. These new books were also funded by the SVACF and we had so many families walk through our lawn to read them. We will be posting them in Wykoff periodically now so they can enjoy them right in their community. We hope to get some more going before too long. In addition to the children and families, we had many individual adults and non-patrons also walking through and reading them which really showed me how great these story strolls are for our community. They are for everyone. Prize bags are being handed out to those who simply turned in a reading log. These were filled with an assortment of goodies and fun trinkets to reward their hard work. Thank you to The Pizza Place, Casey’s and SVACF for contributing incentives for the kids to enjoy!

I also want to share with you that the library is doing a STORYTIME during Ag Days! We will be at the J.T. Synder Pavillion beginning at 5:00 pm on Saturday, August 21st to read some stories. Each child who attends will get to take home a free book paid for by the SVACF. Feel free to have your child come in their PJ’s or bring a favorite stuffed animal to listen with them.
Lastly, I hope you keep coming in and checking out books and telling us how you are doing! We have gotten really used to hearing about your adventures. We met some new friends this summer and we were so excited to see many of our regulars back again!
We are looking at some fun ideas for ADULT programs for the fall-stay tuned!
